Help Inspire the Next Generation of Female Runners

Help Inspire the Next Generation of Female Runners

Take a moment and let’s go way back, all the way back to elementary school. If your elementary school experience was anything like ours, the only running we did in school was in gym class or at the school’s fun run. School was also not always the place we wanted to be. Both of us experienced bullying by other girls and many of you probably did as well. We all know that girls can be mean.

What if there was a program that could inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, confident? There is and that’s Girls on the Run. We have been involved with this amazing organization for years and have been coaches for them ourselves. That is why we are super excited to introduce them as our July non-profit partner. For the entire month we will be focusing on raising funds for Fall 2021 Programming in Colorado.

Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 physical activity-based positive youth development (PA-PYD) program designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. The Girls on the Run® program combines training for a 5K with an interactive curriculum targeting the promotion of competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution.

Girls on the Run® creates a psychologically safe environment for girls to learn about themselves, connect with others, and contribute to the community. Focus on competition and ability in physical activity contexts is often a barrier for participation for girls.  Girls report more enjoyment, satisfaction, and positive relationships with others in climates focused on improvement, skill mastery, effort, and peer support.

Program participants learn to:

  • Develop and improve competence
  • Feel confident in who they are
  • Develop strength of character
  • Respond to others and oneself with care and compassion
  • Create positive connections with peers and adults
  • Make meaningful contributions to community and society

Even as women in our 30s, these are skills that we love to revisit as well.

In July we will host two pop-ups in Denver benefitting this amazing organization. Our goal from these pop-ups is to sponsor an entire team for the season.

July 10 - Miles and Mimosas at The Green Collective
